Amy Brown

A Little About Me

This is my fourth year at Sumner Academy and my ninth year as a high school teacher in the district.  My passion is teaching English and my payoff is when a student's face lights up and "gets it."  I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 32 years and we have five children.  In 2011 while teaching at Harmon High, an advisory student needed more than just a teacher.  I connected with her in order to help her and her siblings out of a very bad situation.  After just a few weeks, my husband and I knew we had to offer these kiddos a forever family.  We went from being parents to two adult boys to being parents to 3 more children--the youngest one was six.  We recognized immediately that these children belonged with us and that we were blessed by their addition to our family.  Professionally, I started as a legal assistant and paralegal and worked in that profession for twenty years.  In my 30's, I went to college for the first time and decided to become an English teacher.  I feel challenged every day by my profession and it is those challenges that make each day interesting.
