Enjoying A Royals Game with the Kids

Biography

Greetings parents and students!  Although I am a native of Oklahoma, I have lived in the Kansas City area since 1998 and have taught at Sumner Academy of Arts and Science since the year 2000.  During my time at Sumner, I have taught Physical Science (2000-2003 & 2009-2010), Biology (2000-2006), Chemistry 1 (2002-present) and IB Chemistry (2007-present).  In the past, I have assisted with different clubs and sport activities, but my current job of department chair occupies most of time outside of the classroom.

Outside of the building, I enjoy spending time with my wife (music teacher in Raytown) and two daughters (elementary ages).  I keep busy during the school year attending my daughters' sporting events (soccer and basketball) and music concerts.  However, when school is out, we like to travel and watch baseball.  One of my long terms dreams is to visit all 30 MLB stadiums.

Currently, I teach Chemistry 1 and IB Chemistry.  In each of these classes I employee this basic philosophy:  students learn scientific concepts by exploring them through hands-on activities.
