Paula Biggar

Sra. Paula Biggar

I was born and raised in Southern California, just outside of Los Angeles. For my university studies, I attended Washington State University where I earned a BA in English and a BA in Foreign Languages and Literature and a secondary teaching certificate. During my years in Pullman, WA, I had the wonderful opportunities of studying in London, England and Sevilla, Spain. I completed my student teaching at the International School of Makati, in Manila, the Philippines.  My first teaching job was in Kaycee, Wyoming where I taught English, Spanish and coached forensics for 5 years.

I moved to Kansas to pursue a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies and have since completed a second Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology at the University of Kansas. I am starting my 26th year of teaching at Sumner Academy of Arts and Science. In addition to teaching IB Spanish and Spanish Literature, I am also the Coordinator for the International Baccalaureate Program. I love teaching and working with all my students!

In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and for many years have been volunteering in Honduras with my church and in Guatemala with a team of optometrists. I love sports, working outside, reading and scuba diving.

I may usually be found in #301 before and after school from approximately 7:30 - 3:45. My planning periods are Hours 2 and 7. Some days I work extra duty and therefore am not available after school. Please check with me if you need to stay after school for help to make sure I will be in my room. You may email me through schoolloop or at or call 913-627-7272 to leave a message.
